Humans can only dream of the kind of approval ratings that dogs get in an Ipsos Public Affairs survey of dog owners, released this month.
95% of the respondents said spending time with their dog “lifts their spirits”
92 % said their dog “helps them enjoy the simple pleasures in life”
91 % said having a dog “makes their life more fulfilling”
75 % said they appreciate the “unconditional love” their dog gives them

It’s a measure of how important dogs are in many of their owners’ lives that 48 percent of respondents said they “could not live without their dogs on a daily basis.”

By comparison, 35 percent said the same about television and 15 percent about their best friend.

Forty-two percent of respondents said they wish they could spend more time with their dog; 13 percent wish it could be “a lot more.” Among respondents under age 55 (i.e., those who tend to be off at work much of the time), 47 percent wish they had more dog time in their day.
